The September 2026 General Meeting of the Festac Grammar School Class of 1998 Alumni Association was held on Saturday, 26 September 2026 at Villa Park Hotel.

The meeting formed the official business phase of a three-part programme that also included the swearing-in and transition to the 2026–2028 Executive Committee and the Association’s 10th Anniversary celebration.

The meeting therefore represented both a regular General Meeting and an important point of institutional transition.

Opening Proceedings

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 3:10 PM by BOT Chairman Gerald Azonobo.

The opening prayer was led by Engineer Tayo Orebela, after which members observed the National and School Anthems.

The previous meeting minutes were not read during this meeting.

BOT Chairman’s Address

A Call for Participation and Unity

The BOT Chairman opened the business proceedings with a call for stronger participation, unity and support for the incoming Executive administration.

Members were encouraged to avoid divisions, disengagement and conduct capable of weakening fellowship and institutional progress.

CAC, SCUML & Regulatory Update

Institutional Registration & Compliance

Members received an update on the Association’s CAC and SCUML processes, related newspaper publication and the change of Secretary recorded as part of the regularisation process.

The BOT Chairman reported that the major registration and compliance work had been completed and that associated processing costs had been borne from Association funds.

Constitution & Bylaws

Distribution of Governing Documents

Printed copies of the Association’s Constitution and Bylaws were distributed to members present.

The printing had been personally funded by the BOT Chairman in fulfilment of an earlier commitment.

Financial Report

Updated Financial Report to Follow

The outgoing BOT advised that the updated financial report would be presented at a subsequent meeting after final adjustments relating to the completed CAC and regulatory processes.

Support for the New Executive

Supporting the Incoming Administration

Members were encouraged to support the incoming Executive Committee and recognise the responsibility accepted by those undertaking leadership roles.

The outgoing BOT emphasised that effective administration would require cooperation from members both within Nigeria and in the diaspora.

Participation Group Review

Review of Group Structure

The meeting considered concerns regarding the effectiveness of the existing participation-group structure, including a proposal to discontinue Group F and redistribute its members among the remaining groups.

Some members expressed reservations about the proposal.

This was a proposal under discussion. The approved Groups A–F structure remains in place unless formally changed.

Banking & Welfare Structure

Proposed Association Accounts

Members received an update on the proposed opening of new Association bank accounts. The intended structure discussed was:

  • Premium Trust BankMembership Dues
  • Globus BankWelfare

Account opening remained subject to completion of the required documentation.

The meeting also discussed maintaining a dedicated welfare structure so that funds intended for member welfare would remain distinct from funds available for projects and other Association purposes.

Agro-Investment Project

Research and Feasibility Continues

The Agro-Investment initiative remained at the research and feasibility stage.

Further work was requested on suitable land and viable crops within the previously discussed indicative budget range of ₦3 million–₦3.5 million.

Swearing-In & Executive Transition

Transition to the 2026–2028 Executive Committee

During the programme, members of the 2026–2028 Executive Committee were formally sworn into office, marking the transition from BOT-led stewardship to renewed elected Executive administration.

President’s First Address

A New Administration Begins

Following the transition, President Oluwagbemiga Oladiran thanked the Board of Trustees for its stewardship and expressed appreciation to the incoming Executive members for accepting responsibility.

He also acknowledged the wider membership and called for continued support as the new administration assumed responsibility for the Association.

Partnership Update

Proposed Pad the Girl Initiative

Members received an update concerning discussions with an external organisation and a proposed Pad the Girl initiative scheduled for November 2026.

Members were encouraged to participate should the collaboration proceed.

Digital Archive & Institutional Memory

Preserving the Association’s Records

The meeting also raised the need for a structured repository for photographs, documents and historical records so that important Association material would not be lost over time.

Adjournment

The formal meeting was adjourned by Gerald Azonobo and seconded by Imeobong Akpan.

The closing prayer was led by Ronke Okuneye, after which the programme transitioned into the anniversary celebration and fellowship phase.
